This course provides students with an in-depth examination of quantitative research methods and statistics that prepares them for either continued academic research or research in a professional setting. Students are introduced to advanced research designs including complex factorial designs, longitudinal designs, test and measurement development, within-subjects design, mixed-methods models, and meta-analysis. In addition to classroom discussions of methodological approaches, students are guided through a hands-on tour of applied research issues such as the ethics application process and the use of statistical software packages. Several data analytic techniques are discussed including regression techniques, mediation and moderation analysis, survival analyses, effect size and power, and structural equation modeling. Students are also introduced to various methods of presenting research findings including grants, research proposals, scientific poster presentations, and technical reports.
